Help! I need some urgent denture repairs

Dentures are a long-wearing and durable, but just like natural teeth, they do occasionally need repairs.

Depending on the material that your dentures are made from, they may become cracked or chipped over time. If you think there’s an issue with your dentures, it’s important you get it seen to as soon as possible. If the dentures are scraped, the rough surface can rub the soft tissues of your gums causing pain and infection. Denture repairs can be simple or complex depending on the issue.

Our mouths change over time, and depending on various factors, your denture may too. If you experience any of the following issues, book an appointment to come and see us and we can check everything over.

Why would I need denture repairs?

  • An accident has caused a clean break in the denture
  • You’ve noticed some fractures or cracks appearing in some of the teeth
  • One or more of the metal clasps has broken
  • One of the false teeth has broken
  • You are worried about the appearance of one or more of the false teeth
  • Your dentures feel loose or uncomfortable
  • Your gums are sore
  • You are having more difficulty chewing or talking
  • You notice smelly odours when cleaning or using your denture

Can I add or replace a false tooth to my denture?

Yes you can. Over time, false teeth may need to be replaced in the denture.

The false teeth may crack due to injury or accident or you may be unlucky if you drop your denture while cleaning. If this has happened to you, don’t stress too much. It is possible to replace false teeth in your dentures. The type and complexity of repair simply depends on the material of the denture. Generally, acrylic dentures can easily have teeth added. Dentures with metal parts may require more complicated welding. Additional welding can also be completed to reinforce the denture and make sure it is as strong as possible.
