Protect don’t replace your teeth with custom fitted mouth guards

Your teeth are so important for many reasons – your smile, being able to talk and eat!

Although we can help you when you have lost teeth, it’s far better to protect your teeth from damage in the first place. Whether your sport is considered ‘contact’ or not, many sports involve a risk of damage to the mouth. Custom fitted mouth guards are the best protection for your teeth while playing the games you love.

A mouth guard is a type of material shaped to your teeth, designed to be worn temporarily over your teeth as an extra layer of protection. If you’ve tried mouth guards in the past, you might think they are inflexible, bulky and uncomfortable. The Denture Clinic’s custom fitted mouth guards are actually soft and spongy – making them very comfortable to wear.

Benefits of a custom fitted mouth guard

  • Suitable for everyone – adults, teens and children
  • Also suitable for people with braces or other orthodontic appliances
  • Effective protection for your teeth where there is risk of trauma to the mouth – eg during sport
  • Custom fit to the exact size and shape of your mouth
  • More comfortable and durable than shop-bought mouth guards
  • Range of colours available which makes protecting your teeth fun!

Custom fitted mouth guards for sport

We recommend wearing a mouth guard during sport or similar high-impact activities when there is a risk of impact to the mouth or face which may cause dental trauma.

Remember accidents can happen at any time. You should wear your mouth guard for both playing and training to protect your teeth as much as possible.

The common types of problems we see from accidents to the mouth include fractured or chipped teeth, loss of teeth, gum damage, damage to teeth requiring tooth extraction and injury to the soft tissue of your mouth. Custom fitted mouth guards can minimise this risk, meaning that your teeth and mouth are protected if an accident occurs. The mouth guard’s spongy material helps to absorb any impact and prevents the top and bottom of your teeth from slamming together.
