What are partial chromium dentures?

While all partial dentures are used to replace missing teeth, the unique feature of partial chromium dentures is that the framework holding the denture together is made from a light and durable cast metal, called cobalt chromium.

This cast metal framework makes the denture lighter and thinner than the alternative construction for partial dentures, which is an acrylic framework. Partial chromium dentures are also known for their durability and longwearing nature. Once you have been custom fitted for your partial chromium dentures with correct care and maintenance it is possible to enjoy many years of wear.

The benefits of chromium dentures

The major benefit of partial chromium dentures is the strength of the chromium framework, which is stronger and can last longer than an acrylic framework.

If your natural remaining teeth are properly restored prior to your denture being fitted, and you attend to proper oral hygiene daily, then partial chromium dentures can last for decades.

How do partial chromium dentures work?

The denture is made from metal which we can precisely cast to the shape of your mouth.

We also use metal clasps to attach the denture to your teeth. These metal clasps are wires placed around your teeth, which keep the partial denture in place and mean that it less likely to rotate. The other main benefit of partial chromium dentures is that they are designed so that the denture does not interrupt the tongue space (palate) in your mouth. This makes it easier to enjoy food and socialise without feeling self-conscious. For these reasons, partial chromium dentures are known for being more comfortable to wear.

Benefits of partial chromium dentures

  • Long-lasting and durable material
  • Precision fit to the shape of your mouth
  • Small metal claps fit around your existing teeth to help the denture stay in place
  • Denture design keeps your tongue space (palate) clear
  • Easier to eat and talk and socialise
  • Known for being more comfortable wear

What if my needs change in the future?

As teeth decay over time, we may need to add additional teeth to the existing denture framework, which is a benefit of partial dentures – teeth can be added to them in the future if required.

This is possible with partial chromium dentures which can also be remodeled and rebuilt using new teeth and acrylic construction, to extend the lifespan of the denture. If issues arise at any point, then it is possible to weld partial chromium dentures to fix the damage that may occur over time.

What do partial chromium dentures cost?

Although partial chromium dentures do have many benefits, they are more expensive than acrylic partial dentures.

This cost will depend on the type of denture and how many teeth are being replaced, which we will discuss with you to ensure that you may choose the right solution for your needs. See our Pricing page for more information.
